《中西方民間敘事比較研究（英文）》主要是針對中西方民間敘事進行比較研究。這是一項基于人文學的跨學科、跨文化的研究，它涵蓋了中西方語言、文學、歷史、心理學、哲學、宗教等學科。本研究主要圍繞中西文學中的六個民間敘事展開，研究的主要理論基礎是約瑟夫坎貝爾（Joseph Campbell）的《千面英雄》（The Hero with a Thousand Faces）（1968）與《神話的力量》（The Power of Myth）（2001），卡爾榮格（Carl Jung）的《原型和集體無意識》（The Archetypes and Collective Unconscious）（1980），弗拉基米爾普羅普（Vladimir Propp）的 《民間故事形態(tài)學》（Morphology of the Folktale）（1968）及羅伯特圣克萊爾（Robert St. Clair）的《文學結構、人物發(fā)展與戲劇場景對小說類別的限定》（Literary Structures， Character Development，and Dramaturgical Scenarios in Framing the Category Novel）（2004）。研究以上述的神話理論、原型及集體無意識理論和情節(jié)結構理論作為指導，詳細對比分析了中西民間故事中的敘事主題、情節(jié)結構和人物原型，以揭示中西故事之間的深層關系。此外，本研究的另一個目的是希望通過對中國民間敘事的分析，驗證上述的西方理論框架和理論范式是否具有文化局限性，是否可以用于非西方 的文學作品研究。
