Communicating across cultures can be confusing and uncertain unless you have the right frame of mind and approach. These practical strategies can help you prevent misunderstandings and municate effectively across cultures.
Acquaint oneself with foreign culture
The main and most prominent key to effective cross-cultural munication is knowledge. It is absolutely essential that people understand the potential problems of cross-cultural munication, and make a huge conscious effort to overe these problems.
Be patient and forgiving
One should always assume that there is a significant possibility that cultural differences are causing munication problems, and be patient and forgiving rather than hostile and aggressive if problems develop.
Listen actively
Active listening can sometimes be used to check meaning out-by summarizing what one thinks he or she heard, one can confirm that one understands the munication accurately.
Be flexible
As one interacts with people of different cultures, one should not stick to one's normal character and speaking style because one may have to acmodate to his/her partner's culture to make the munication more effective.
Be honest
