本教材為了適應(yīng)時(shí)代的發(fā)展和英語教學(xué)的需要而編寫，供高等院校英語專業(yè)學(xué)生使用，也適合成人教育學(xué)院、民辦院校、廣播電視大學(xué)、遠(yuǎn)程教育英語專業(yè)學(xué)生及自考生和廣大英語自學(xué)者使用。
本教材以《高等學(xué)校英語專業(yè)英語教學(xué)大綱》和交際話題的難易為依據(jù)，以功能意念為線索，融功能意念于交際之中，以日常生活中經(jīng)常使用的話題為重點(diǎn)。在編寫中努力體現(xiàn)聽說結(jié)合、難度階梯化的方式，選材注重實(shí)用性和趣味性相結(jié)合，貼近生活，體現(xiàn)時(shí)代特色。本教材在編寫中借鑒了許多口語資料，結(jié)合中國口語教學(xué)的實(shí)際情況，在編寫練習(xí)的過程中，注重引導(dǎo)和啟發(fā)，力求形式多樣，內(nèi)容充實(shí)，引導(dǎo)學(xué)生從模仿練習(xí)開始逐漸過渡到自己能夠自然流暢的表達(dá)。全套教材共分四冊，一、二冊目標(biāo)在于幫助學(xué)生打好口語基礎(chǔ)，三、四冊則側(cè)重于培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的交流技巧，如公共演講技巧、研討談判技巧等。每冊16單元，配有錄音。
